This was my old mans old Datsun 1200 coupe.
I believe it had an a15 with twin side draft weber's with Koni adjustable front and back. The major mod was he mid mounted the engine so he moved it back around 8 inches. other than that she wasn't really a looker but a not to bad rallier.
Cheers Eddy

Pretty nice job of engine setback.

Like the exterior too, but it seems very high.

yes i believe it was very high due to great handling whilst rallying in the old days :) but then again i am not to sure. It had koni adjustables (the top of the shelf at the time.

Yeah I like how the firewall is stepped still retaining the same material. Good on costs, retains most of it's structural strength (pressed ribs) and shows some planning went into it to cut it out nicely.

Good to see some old pics still coming up.

It may not look like it but a whole lot of work went into that. The tube frame 1200's have the motor set back that far as well...........obviously makes a huge difference. Think about all the little things involved in doing this; shorter drive shaft, repositioned shifter, wire loom changes, cross-member, relocated radiator , hoese and a whole host of minor jobs.
This is a pretty neat garage built mod, I'm sure your Dad had great fun with it.

Tom

Cheers mate he will be very pleased to know how many people appreciate it. and yes lots and lots of work went into it. Apparently the motor set back that far was just awesome for rallying because of the awesome turning and being able to hits corners from whatever way the turning circle was apparently fantastic.
