So I scored some nice seats and they came with mini rails...sweet I thought Ill just need to drop some angle iron on the originnal mounts and just bolt on the 2 front legs, seemed simple, till i realised where the seats ended up are no where near centre of the wheel and in fact rub up against the door. It seems the original seats are offset towards the centre. no wucks ill just flip one othe the angle irons and shimmiy it over abit I thought...still not on centre and now i ve realised that they sit WAY too high...pity you gotta do all this stuff to realise its just not what you want. :(
So now im left with the predicament of how to offset the rails I want to use- still going to use the mini rails...just chop off the mini mounts. As you can see from this pic where I want the rails to sit, and where the mounts are.



So im wondering what would you talented fabricators out there do? I could just make a box out of flat bar but with one rail over the centre mounts and one sitting off, but the outside mounts sticking out like a sore thumb. Mightn't be a good look.
So how would you guys do it, and/or do it safely?
I was hoping to do this without modding the original mounts and to keep them as low as possible, so If I gotta go back to the original seats someday I could.

I'm confused. I might just take some pictures of mine? Mine touch the door that's all and they're that close to the trans tunnel that there isn't really anywhere to move them, so essentially the fit perfectly.

Maybe we have different seats, can I see a picture of your seats? Have you checked that they aren't handed (one intended for left side of vehicle and the other intended for right side of vehicle) as the bolt patterns may differ.

Ill check it but I reckon theyre pretty much the same both sides, are the bolt patterns different on yours? they are definetly a much narrower rail width, with the best central position about where Ive placed them

Can you mount the rails to the original points and then move the seat over on the rails? The rail top mounts look like they are on a flat plane?

ah so split the rails apart and then weld a new bridge to offseat the seats onto? I like your thinking Dean!

Just have to be make sure the slide mechanisms don't foul on the mounts, or run some spacers for them.

Yeah I checked Chris there seems to be no difference between right and left.

Scully, I recommended you use 120y rails in a PM I sent because they came from factory as separate items. I used a 1200 one which I split so each seat rail is actually two pieces (in my album somewhere).

The seat bolt pattern for mine in reference to the existing holes on the actual runners is narrower but longer, not by much though. This would of course be a completely different dimension with your rails as they are still joined.

If you want me to pull the seat completely to take some better pics let me know. I'm changing the head over tonight anyway to the race head so I'm out and about and do not mind one bit at all to remove the seat.

Did the 120y ones come with the b10 holes or did you have to make them yrself?
I reckon im going to try and grind these ones apart and reuse as they are a good solid rail, then reweld some flat bar across the top at the right length.
I guess any old rail long enough would do

Might as well, any value they had as mini rails is kinda subtracted due to the fact I ground the end of the brackets round to fit insde the angle iron on the first attempt :/

Yeah had to drill them, which I had to file out as slots so there was a little more adjustment, as you can't get them perfect.

Also didn't re-weld a bridge/strut back in. The 1200 ones are flimsy as, they are not structural and I doubt it is a necessity as the 120y's came without.

Don't bother with the bridge. Unless it really doesn't rest well on your conscience. Or unless you plan on using it to accommodate the bolt holes as well.

So, separate the two runners.

Set them up on the existing mounts, mark/punch where you need to drill to bolt through to the mounting holes.

Drill.

Cut small tabs (drill a hole in one end for the bolt-hole to seat underside) that serve to bolt to the seat pattern and tack them onto the runners, mate these up and see if it all aligns, you'll need to break a tack or two to get it perfect. It's simply too tight to use nuts that's why I went with hex bolts, don't forget your spring washers.
