Do you want a non turbo cos your on your P's? Anything bigger than whats in it might not pass through rego, depending where you are. Might be a good idea to look into modifications for the A12? Otherwise there are 1400s or 1500s you can put in with minimal mods, but like I said, rego might be a problem.

unless your towing or have a heap of stuff in the back, the A12 should do more than enough. give it a good service and a tune. but if you need more then yes, stick with a A series, A14 or A15, but as elemental_funch said watch out rego, and corners as it will now be a rocket. but yeah, have a look at the tech wiki.

These lads are right, either work or service the A12 or go with a bigger donk.

Otherwise, with regard to your regulations you could build an A12 stroker....increase capacity another 200+cc but keep the engine number.

Or you could re-stamp an A14 or A15 but that's completely illegal and if you're found out you'll end up in the deep poo for that.

In SA I think we can go up to a 1.5 in a 1000.

According to Vehicle standards in SA the max for a 1000 is 1.4 :/

Stock A14 would still rip in a 1k, if you want to be on the safe side that is.
Depends on how cluey the man on the pits is, even if the engine number reads A15-XXXXXXXX doesnt mean hell pick that to be a 1500...could be just a number to him.
The only thing youll have to worry about is if you want to engineer and fully insure it, or prang it causing serious injury or worse...not that youd want to do that, but its more a matter of liability on your behalf.
