Hi all
Anyone have experience. They are a bit pricey but I am looking at one because of it's application to small detailed jobs.

I am looking at the 4000 range which seems to be in the upper region of their product range.
Any suggestions/advice appreciated

buy one... never look back, great for niggly rust repair clean outs and stuff

used a cheaper model a while back, recently was given a super dooper one with digital speed control and stuff, seems awesome but still waiting for a good job to use it on lol

even the cheaper one was great, only issue is they can chew through the bits and they arnt cheap, so if a small angle grinder or air tool can do the job its better to use that

the flexible extension drive seems like it will be worthwhile, but again waiting for an excuse to use it

Yea, the 4000 model seems decent. Did a bit of research on the internet and checked the video on DREMEL's website. Quite nice item to have. Can get it for $170 Aus.
Then it is that kit item that has the machine plus the bits and pieces extra.

Yeah second the thumbs up matey there awesome for heaps of jobs plenty of attachments available have done some fiddly jobs with mine. Got attachments with mine that make me feel like going into dental work. Many have a 5 year warranty thats saying something these days i reckon.

Yep a must have tool, I found the flexible attatchment is a bit of a week point though I broke mine within a month (but I do push my tools to the limit!).
Still, a very handy and flexible tool.

Find a guy in SA who works for Bosch and you might be able to get it cheaper....that's how i roll

My wife works at a business that does woodwork. She does the books and stuff. They get nice discount on tools and equipment and can claim tax return on the tools. Gonna see if I can buy it through them to get it even at a better price.

ive got a immatation one from k mart for $15- works great, better than my $10 aldi one that broke when i tried to change the bit. i use the genuine dremel bits- found a box at the local hardware shop for $10 cause some one stole the polishing bits out of it and left the rest. bargain from $45.

I think Dremel is a brand name, while the generic name of the tool is called Rotary tool, I think?

I bought a cheap $25 dollar one and it still works great.

Dremels are good for a wide variety of applications, but as its been stated the bits are expensive and If you want to do any real precision drilling/milling/cutting using the aftermarket attatchments...forget it.
That said the adage you get what you pay for still applies as quality miniature precision presses/mills/cutters start around $800
If you are looking for something with more precision but cheap at the same time id reccomend Sonic Mini Tools Tho they are aimed at woodworkers a lot of his tools can be used just as effectively on metal.

Also, if anyone ha any access to the larger jewellery suppliers you might be cheaper getting your burrs/wire brushes/cutting discs etc from there, not to mention a much better range of different cutting/polishing grades.
