Have you fullas seen the damage in Japan? Having been through a few earthquakes recently, I really feel for them. we didn't get a tsumani here (thank f_ck!) but it looks like a real mess over there. I'd expect quite a high death toll given all the cars and trucks being swept away by the water.

8.9 is huge. Not sure what else to say.

Bit worried for my old man, wouldn't be surprised if the south pacific were next (for an earthquake).

How's christchurch anyhow? What are they saying about rebuilding the place?

It wont happen overnight.
I heard today that 30 buildings over 6 stories were going to have to be demolished. I didn't even know we had that many buildings over 6 stories. Christchuch isn't that big really. (only 330,000 odd people live ehere)
Worst part was as we were watching live footage of the tsunami, we had another aftershock ourselves. It only takes a few big bumps in the night, and you get a pretty crappy nights slep.

I've just spoken to friends and family in Japan, said the earthquake was scary, but not to much damage(for the population) . The tsunami is going to be the bad part. Japan is constructed well to deal with earthquakes, although this is the largest ever recorded.My thoughts are with you nihon.

nz, japan and philopines are all along his plate- one of the largest, as it moves northwards.

i remember it all from geography at school. i loved reading about this stuff. hate seeing it.

unfortunalely the preesure shifts to another part of the plate now. so possibly usa side of it, as it pulls northwards, the south western and northen edhes have had release of the pressures.

The main quake occurred 373km NE of Tokyo not in Japan so they are lucky.

If the same quake was within Honshu (main) island there are 55 nuclear power
plants to worry about not the 3 that have their cooling towers failing.
