just wondering if anyones actually done this? and legalities for rego im serously considering undertaking this, along with converting the front end to coilover, just using the front leaf spring mounts for your lower control arm then making a cross member across the underside of the floor for the upper control arms wouldnt be all that hard???

It has been done
There are pics here (I saved them awhile ago.. not sure who was doing it though)
Not sure if it got finished though... much like my IRS setup I started but haven't completed
My racecar had a 3 link... but it also ran a dedicated chassis

I'm planning something similar for my white coupe... once I get this Torana finished

Oh... don't forget... panhard

wont need a pan hard if you set it up like the old LC LJ torries angled upper control arms theyll control bot the lateral and longitudinal forces simple.
and i think gq upper control arms might be able to be used if they are near enough to the appropriate length

My 2c worth, I'd go the traditional 5 link style rear end, much easier to do and a lot easier to set up, thinking about doing it myself.

But if you want to do 4 link, is a sunny rear end a good place to start, diff mounts are already there.

The Torana floorpan is designed to absorb alot of impact. It isn't as simple as brackets spot welded to the floor. The Watts linkage is popular for rear end conversions as it always keeps the axle straight during the lateral forces while the panhard rod tends to push the rear axle to one side. The V shaped upper control arm works well on the Torana but it does put a massive stress on the floorpan. The biggest problem is where to mount the springs. Coil over's would be the only option and that would require some serious fab work.

I got the idea of using the triangulated 4 link off my old mans lj drag setup in the rear he replaced the coils with coil overs as he couldn't no longer coils + shocks as seperate units due to tubbing the rear. Using the old shock mounts in the datto with sufficient bracing of all mounts throughout the rear.

volvo 360 rear end is the same floorpan as the previous model
which was leaf sprung. Its worth a look if you see one it all
click into place when you do.

Drag cars don't need to turn corners
So the triangulated upper ars are OK for that
But a better design would be parralel arms with panhard

I have a Torana I'm even looking into changing for track use

Ohk just the torries used it from factory and I'm assuming in racing to so would have thought the simplicity would be easy to convert as there isn't much room Under the datto once you bring in a panhard/wats link coil overs and upper and lower control arms and its only a street car that will rarely see the street or track
