hi mates.

i have just restored my L16 for my datsun 1600. the engine is not been started yet, the problem is, the oil dipstick snapped, leaving the remain (about 2 inches long) inside the engine. the engine is inside the car though.

my question is, is it safe to just run the engine, or is it dangerous and i should open the oil sump to remove that stuff? opening the oil sump would be time consuming. or is there any other option i should consider?

for the cost of a sump gasket and a bit of time its probably worthwhile taking the snapped off bit out.

you should be able to take the sump off without wrecking the seal and should be able to use it again, just dont over tighten the sump....with a cork gasket the tighter is not always better
