So here’s a build thread on my 1200 coupe, for those that are interested.
1971 Datsun KB110 1200 Coupe. A12, 4 speed, stock standard.
I brought this 4 years ago, from a guy who rallies these over in New Zealand. This car was a spare ‘shell’ he acquired, but as it was 95% complete, with live registration and plates, he on-sold it to me, as it was too good to cut up for spare panels.
Here are a couple of photos below, of when I brought it June 2007.

So once I got the wee coupe home, I quickly went to work and stipped it down to see the how bad it was underneath. Once stripped, I had the entire shell sodium blasted and epoxy primed.
Overall it was very straight and no real evidence of any major crashes or previous repairs. Rust was isolated to a few main areas, that being the bottom of the A pillars, around the rear wheel arches, and along the sills, with a few holes in and around the boot. overall a little more rust then I expected, but thats a Datsun for you! but minimal bog / repairs was a bonus.

Not alot happened in the first year or so, other than I spent quite a bit of time and money tracking down replacment new, and good condition replacement parts. I brought a complete other coupe in bits (rusty as f%&k) and parted that out (brought it for the new panels and mint door cards it had!). Brought in quite a bit of stuff from the States and Japan, and repro stuff from Taiwan etc. My (original) plan was to restore back to factory original, hub caps/white walls etc etc. original matching numbers motor etc....

So, fast forward to August 2008, I was having a lazy surf on the web at afternoon tea as you do at work, and jumped on to trademe, and what do I see but a stock standard 1200 Sedan, Mikan orange, 100% complete, owned by a Nana, that had had a wee smack in the back corner and written off. $500 buy now! woo - hoo hit the button immediately on the auction. Paid the price with the wife later..... thought that I could pull the punt out, tidy it up, and recomply it, for a couple of K and be rolling in the summer. Unfortunately I got carried away, and after the required panel repairs, we threw on new guards, had all the rust cut out and patched, and resprayed it all. Some new wheels, and some chrome and bits, new carpet, new window rubbers, door seals, serviced the motor, etc etc Unfortunately the wee "in between" project ended up costing me about 8K to get up and running, but I had it tidied up and on the road in 10 weeks, to make our annual NZdatsun Cruise to Akaroa!

So the sedan distracted me for quite some time.
I played around with various wheels, ride heights, and motors & gearboxes.
ran a hot A12 & 5 speed, for quite a while.
then September last year I built an A15 for it, with hot head, cam , 40mm dellortos etc, 60A box. Unfortunately I broke a valve spring just after I run the motor in, which really hacked me off. Feel out of love with the wee car for a while, and when I was approached to sell it as a rolling shell, I reluctantly let it go. (although it went to a good home, as Greg Murphy brought it off me to reshell a SSS he was building). some pics of below, of when it was looking good just before I sold it.

So back on to the Coupe, I had some front end work done last year; Ute front x-member, 310 lower control arms, Nolethane bushes through out, Koni adjustable rear struts. Front Struts with HSD coilover kit, D2 Camber plates, S13 Brake upgrade. New Ball joints, and I just brought in new steering idler, tie rods & drag link etc. Blasted and powder coated all the metal work. Just need to get some new leaf springs and a few more nolethanes for the rear.

So the A15 that played up in my sedan, I had stripped and checked and rehoned #4 bore and put another piston in (can only assume a bit of broken valve spring got in somehow and garked the piston/bore). Put back together and mocked up my ITB setup. I have Megasquirt 2 & Innovate O2 sensor etc to control things. have an exceedy clutch etc, 60A to go with it. Also got a 4.1 H165 ute diff rear end, I need to strip and overhaul. obviously with lessons learnt with the Sedan, and realising how boring driving a standard A12 is on standard suspension, I have decided to modify the coupe somewhat. Will be going JDM style, lowered, camber, bullet mirrors, mild metal flared guards over techno racing wheels (14x6.5 up front, 14x7 rear), Mk1 Rabbit spoiler. Will be painting original red, and thinking about maybe running BRE style vinyl over the top.

So I have had the car at my mates for the last 6 months, and he has been doing all the repairs as a fill in job. As always a lot more than I thought was involved in repairs. We have had to patch quite a few holes in the floor, and rebuild completely the bottoms of the A pillars, the front apron, he has also formed up complete new inner and outer sills for each side, new wheel well patches, Formed new rear guard flared lips, inner & outer layers. floor patches, etc etc, seems to be never ending but we are almost there.....
Plan to get all repairs primed, then get it home to prefit engine and do all the new fuel lines, wiring, and the likes. I am largely delooming the engine bay, as the MS2, EFI & EDIS contribute to quite a bit of reduced clutter under there.
Thats about where I am at really I guess....
