Hi Guys, I was looking at my carby manifold over the weekend at it doesn't appear to have the little post sticking out of it for the exhaust heat riser spring.. does anyone know if this is a separate part you had to screw in or something? Cheers, Tom

Yes it is a separate part that is press-fitted (hammered in). It is normally non-removable.

would it be easy enough to find a rod of the same diameter and hammer it in?

It would be easy for me to buy an intake/exhaust combo that is all-together and in good condition. And those cars are rare around here (no B210 or B110 or B310 for sale at used car lots in this country!). I would just buy the manifold off eBay or through web classifieds. Or from the local wreckers.
I have never seen a manifold with that part missing, so I'm not sure how to fix it. You might be able to hammer a pin in there.
