Hi all,

Been trying to get onto this site for ages, finally got approved. Not sure why it took so long but all good now.

Anyway, I purchased my first Datto this year, a 1974 120Y Coupe. Got a good deal, all original, 80,000k, just needed a bit of love. I will post some pics of it later on. Anyway, just bought a Weber for it because I was having a lot of trouble with low end torque on it and decided after screwing around with the other carb, that I wanted a Weber anyway and would wait until I got that before I went any further. I fitted it today and I have a couple of queries.

First, I used to have two hoses connecting to my air filter, one from the rocker cover, which is now connected to the air filter of the weber, and this other one. What am I meant to do with it?

Also the throttle, the old carb had a bracket for holding it in the right position, the weber didn't. I removed the old one, and modified it slightly. Prob needs some more adjustment when but works ok. Is this the norm or is there a better way?

Also, my old choke cable is now way to long. Do you just cut this to size? I am assuming so but don't want to do it in case I am missing something.

Other than that all seems good. Needs a finer tune, but it is running, and a noticeable difference in power etc. Looking forward to really taking it for a spin once everything is sorted.

Thanks in advance.

1st photo - that hose goes to the air cleaner on the standard carb. The easiest way to fix this is get a brass fitting from a parts place, with a threaded end, or the fuel fitting from an old fuel pump, drill a hole in the bottom of the air cleaner, attach the fitting with a locknut & connect the hose to the fitting. That valve is for the venting of the fuel tank to either the air cleaner or the block.
2nd photo - this is how I've always attached the throttle cable, you just have to make sure the fitting is tight so you get proper throttle movement, not the plate moving.
3rd photo - I've sometimes cut the choke cable back, but sometimes I keep it the standard length, but route it a bit differently to you. I put the metal sleeve in the clip on the rocker cover, then put the cable so it passes behind the air cleaner, then does a left hand 270 degree turn to come back to the choke on the weber, sort of like an on ramp on a freeway. Makes for a smoother choke as all the bends are smooth.

So you got it pretty right, now just for a tune up & happy motoring.
