Hi Guys,

CA18 Project Ute nearly finished but I need a BOV.
Was looking at the Turbosmart range. But have no idea what to get, the Ute will be driven on the street so Im guessing that only Plumbacks are legal???
What is everyone else running? Any other brands that are good?
Any help/advice would be great.

Cheers

plumb backs for street. Ive fitted a turbosmart one on my ute, should do the job for most cars. If your running massive boost then open is best.

how much boost are you planning to run? For years one of the 'sneaky' bov sources was a bosch unit that was to suit a saab turbo. I don't have hte part number, but I can likely dig it up.

Up to approx 12-14psi they work just fine, but apparently can start to leak at higher boost levels than that. they were popular,if for no other reason, than the fact that they worked reliably and were (at the time) dirt cheap compare to aftermarket 'shiny' ones.

That may or may not be to your liking.

Plumbed back to the intake is the only way to be legal - otherwise the management (usually) thinks it's taken in all that air, and as such meters fuel accordingly, and if it is vented to atmo, there'll be a bit of unburned fuel/high hydrocarbon emissions every time you lift off the throttle - either on gearchanges, or just backing off at the end of a hard run along a stright, or at the drags or whatever.

you should look into not running a bov
more power less lag and no leak issues

WTF? how do you figure that?

BOV's by design should not leak depending on boost.... they have the hose on top which goes to the inlet manifold to ensure that. This way you have equal boost on either side of the plunger in the BOV, therefore doesn't matter what boost you have as it cancels out, when you shut throttle off there is no longer boost pressure in the inlet manifold, so then you have no boost in the top of the BOV to prevent it opening

Cheers for all the advice guys, Im not to sure about running no BOV, after looking into it I found that its better to have one than not to have one.
I spoke to Turbosmart and they suggested the Dual Port, due to ya can use it as a Plumback and a vent to atmos.....but a bit pricey for my liking, plus they are huge.
They do a Kompact range to replace the factory Bosh units too, Which arnt to badly priced.
Ill have a look into the Saab Bosh units and the GFB Plumback.
