2 questions- electrical
Guest_
im attempting to fix my elecrtrical issues and think i have isolated it to the power feed from the battery to the loom (white wire red tracer)

this dfeeds off the battery through the fuseable link and to the loom.
spliced into this wire is a pos wire to the elec distributier (soldered on).

Now the 2 questions are:

1.) im thinking of getting a junction box to remove the soldered join, splitting the power from the loom feed and therefore remving the soldered join. is this a good idea? sort of like a fuse box of sorts.

2.) im looking to remove fuseable link as i think theres a break in the wire anyway, i want to place an inline fuse instead (as per most modern cars) but unsure what ampage fuse to use- 30 40 or 50 amps.

That is strange. I've never seen any electronic distributor with a permanent (unswitched) connection to 12V. It's supposed to go through the IGN switch.

Modern cars don't use an inline fuse from the battery. They still use fusible links or some circuit breakers to protect the wiring harness.

Was a quick trace of wires, will double check again.

As for fuseable link will try source something else then mines obviously part of the problem

ok, that's entirely normal, they are soldered together. All good.

Not when tacho starts leaping to 10000rpm (and lights in cabin flicker) no loss of performance etc.

Stop the car then it wint restart- jiggle the join or lead to fuseable link and it's all good again. Some thing some where there- wasn't the earths like I thought it was in build thread when I fixed and cleaned all those

Sounds like a corroded spade connector -- which is quite common
If could be a bad soldered join, but less likely, and harder to test.

First remove the fusible link and clean the connectors. Get all corrosion/rust off the wire ends. That will likely fix the problem.

New Fusible Link is $7 at Nissan USA parts.
Or $2 for a generic Fusible Link of the same type from Amazon.com

But you can clean up the connectors with ether and a knife point.

The plastic can get crumbly but the connectors will still work good. Just clean them up. I ran one for 10 years with the plastic connector part worn away.
