Grinding noise |

I,ve developed this really bad grinding noice since the weekend when I lowered the engine, its only when turning right. I have a track day in two weeks and don,t think I can enter unless I can sort this out. My thoughts are that it has to do with the angle the drive sharft but would like anyone elses coments. Its a 1200 sedan, its been lowered with reset leafs and lowering block. Its an a15 with on a roadstar crossmember, the engine is about 20mm lower than standard and the diff is about 75mm higher than standard.

Where's the noise coming from? Front end rear? Is it exhaust hitting tail shaft? Is you diff to gear box angle for the shaft ok still? Weird its only turning right. Your battery isn't hitting alt or something from not being secured is it

Noise sounds to be coming the rear, its not a banging sound like you would expect if diff was coming up to the exhaust, batt in the boot, checked engine bay and nothing loose. What should the angle be and how do I check it?...thanks

Might be diff hitting exhaust or rubbing against tail shaft. Mine did hit till I shortened the rubbers that hold rear muffler. Get some one to sit in car to check.
What exhaust size you got?

Do you think it could be the drive shaft on the exhaust, its a 2 1/2 inch, yep the muffler is close on that side.

Yeah probably, mine did, you can see the marks on the tail shaft and the muffler or exhaust. If there is enough movement in exhaust hangers, bend them a Little bit away from shaft, I also used shorter rubber hangers. Some times one slips off and I know cause I hear muffler against drive shaft.

Mine did that and it was the muffler on the driveshaft. Only happened when turning one direction.
Angle of driveshaft joints won't change from lowering engine or lowering rear -- unless you used angle blocks to lower. If you lowered the engine 20mm, lower the gearbox the same so they are even.

Quess that makes sence that it making that noice on a right turn considering the mufler is on that side. Lowering the gearbox was my next job until it started making this noice. I,ve lowered the rear end with lowering blocks, are these the same as angle blocks?

You could post a photo so we would know. There are squared lowering blocks and angled lowering blocks. Buy that's not causing the grinding noise. It would only cause a whining noise.
