A good motor builder should be telling u what he should do! You can get kits from us full forged stuff for 1500 or so! And a gt2871r will be good for 300-350 next step is 2876 but a little more lag but depends again on manifold and flow, a manifold like 6boost will make spool faster ect!

mcdat, just get Nissan CA18DET Rebuild Kit from spoolimports.com + main and head arp bolts. Drop in pon tomei cams with race valve springs. Dream ca18det would be lewisengines 2.3l stroker kit :)) Turbo options would be 2871 with .63 rear or if you have the money 3071 .63 t3 twin scroll + 6 boost manifold

40thou over, would only go 20thou .5 over just in case you need to hone bore later.

Are you chasing 300hp at the wheels or flywheel?

What will the car predominantly be used for?

What sort of compromises in power delivery can you live with?

What's your budget?

Hi guys sorry for my ignorence but are the spool rebuild kits good quality also arp main and head bolts. Will they give me a tough engine and also when a motor is balanced what items are balanced and how do they do it.Do they need to do brand new pistons etc,i thought that they would come balanced from the factory.

Not being rude mate but the person building your motor should know most of this and if not why are u letting me do it mate?

Bevo he is taking care off me,he said just to trust him, that he will build me a tough motor,im asking these ?'s because i wondering whether or not i can save a bit off money here and there. He said that my ca will be fully balanced, crank prepped, honed, chunky cams big turbo and fully forged for around the 5k mark, which ive got him to committ to in the price off doing the full conversion(tubbes, fit diff, move leaf springs, build motor, electrical, fitt gauges etc etc) 25k.Basically get it on the road.

Have you thought about these questions? Have you discussed them with your engine builder?

Regardless of how good he is at building motors these are things you should discuss before any work commences. For example you could potentially end up with a motor set up for drag racing when you want to compete in lap sprints.

There are plenty of us on here who have been through this with CA18DETs and there is a lot more to it than simply throwing a set of forged pistons and a rebuild kit at it.
