hi guys, looking at getting some coil overs made up for my ute very soon. I've got 120y struts atm and looking at keeping them aswell. I've just got a few questions that i need answers to before i go ordering parts and sending the stuff away to get welded etc.

1. What spring rate should i look at getting? i want something for street and track use but i do want it fairly stiff for drifting.
2. What strut insert should i look at getting? Looking for something cheap and effective. Are adjustable shocks needed?
3. Do i need to get the strut shortened?

thanks

Best to get strut shortened with shorter inserts that are adjustable. Depends if you want to lower it heaps or not as stock struts can bottom out with lowered king springs even.

Also adjustables will work well tuning to the springs. I'm running 250 lb street and I think they are borderline rough for street. You shouldn't need more than 275 but I even think I'd be better with 225lb at times.

I'm running shortened 200b with cool overs and adjustable nos ex us konis. They are 51mm strut not 46mm like you have(hard to find inserts for 46mm!ones )

well yes the adjustment of going really low would be nice. And your right they do bottom out atm with kings springs.

what is 225 lb in kg?

does anybody know of a decent bang for buck shock that i can fit in a shortened 120y strut?

But fattys already delude them selves on their weight. Been there done that.

Datsport and mad Dat go up to 275lb springs but as having 250lb, I wouldn't go heavier really even with a ca

Personally i would get the strut shortened with shorter shocks, i just put my coilovers in my 120Y and to get enough travel from the shock i had to set it a bit high, if your looking for a good low sitting car then shorten them but if your looking at not dropping it on the floor then there should be no need to shorten, all about how flush you want them yo sit with your wheels and what size wheel you run.

2.2LB = 1KG
