Did 1000s come with different alternators?

Early 1000 has a single mounting "ear" like on the right?


I know that late 1000s have two ears, same as Datsun 1200 unit shown on the left.

Anyone got photos of their 1000 alternator and/or the engine block bracket?

DD, I only know of the one on the left havent seen the right, Ill take a photo today of my vb10 but can say the van is a 68 and my coupe is a 70 model and are the same as the left one but with different wiring colours which stumped me when doing the alt upgrade on the early one. I usually upgrade the alts with the inbuilt fan and internal reg also for the looks, less wiring and age.

The one on the left is a 1200 alternator, same as later 510s. The later B10 are like it with the same 3-ear mounting, but as you say with different wiring from early 1000 and early 510s.

Early B10s have a different alternator and a different bracket per the catalog. Looking for a photo to confirm.

I can take some pics of my 1000's too ... but I think only 1 is actually a 1000 motor so mine are probably all later type despite being mounted in the 1000 position

Ok have the photo but left it in my brothers glovebox this evening but on careful examination DD you are right the right one is the alternator on my 68 vb10.
I thought it was the left but definitely the 68 and 70 models I have are the right.
Im thiking the left would only fit the later cast iron brackets on the mid dizzie engines 1975 ownwards?

* 1970-1973 B110 A12 engine
* 1969-1971 521 L16 engine
* 1973-1979 620 Pickup (USA) L16/L18/L20B

This is the reason Im using an alternator with dual pulleys front and back to run a supercharger, the waterpump gets in the way of a straight forward setup.
