Ok my fellow datsun tuners,i just baught an a15 engine. It comes out of the late model b310 that has the 56a Gearbox 4speed,Would the gear box be able to stand out for long?

My 1200 has the 310 model 56A gearbox 4 speed bolted on to my A12.I have already installed a 310 alloy centre diff which handles 125 lb.ft Which would be able to work on the A15.What are your options that i should use? Please help me out,ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRICIATED.

CHEERS DARREN..

The gearbox should hold out fine depending on how you drive it and how its maintained. The 56A is a more then decent but id opt for a 56a 5 speed for the stock gearing this transmission works very well for street, slaloms, high-speed time trials or rallies

But if your wanting something else its hard to find something great for racing for example in the tech wiki -
The F5C56A [JDM Option 1] is as rare as hen's teeth. These were racing parts, and thus are difficult to find and expensive. Some Japanese dealers fitted them to retail GX models for special customers. The Japan domestic model Datsun 1200 GX-5 came with the wide ratio F5W56A as standard. This was also available from Datsun Competition.

So it depends on what you want to do, and how you do it.

Im running a 5 speed 56a and it still doesnt miss a beat

extract from the wiki

I speculate that the US arm of DatsunSport quite possibly listed the stock F5W56A [wide ratio trans] as their Option 1 gearbox & the real Option 1, the close ratio F5C56A competition trans, as their Option 2 offering, thereby confusing the situation completely. [Author KB10]

Thank you SO MUCH FOR YOUR INFORMATION that you just shared with me,but here in my country it is VERY Very hard to find and purchase a 5speed gear box or a14/a15 gearbox for the a series engine because every one is going for the Front Wheel drive cars,so there are no more importation of the a seies engines but parts are easyy to come by.

Cheers DARREN.

Would the [56A 4-speed] gear box be able to stand out for long [with an A15 engine]?

Probably. The 56A 4-speed is a lot stronger than the 56L 4-speed that came in the Datsun 1200s. The A version came in B210/B310 and 1200 truck/ute/pickup. I was using a 56A 4-speed with my 1500 cc engine and it was holding up fine.

The 56A 5-speed will be weaker than the 56A 4-speed. The recommended transmission for an A15 is the 60-series 4-speed, that's the one Nissan fitted behind A15s.

Thank you very very much guy for the feedback.Would my a12 stock Manifold work on to the A15,because my a12 has 2 bolt pattern? Because the A15 Has a three bold pattern. Will it hurt my performance in anyway?

Cheers Darren.

I used 56a no problems behind a15's- 4speeds that is. Just don't be doing burnouts etc.

They are fine for fast road/track

Yes, it will limit performance to about the HP level of an A12. The manifold is lower-flow, thus lower-horsepower.

Interesting to hear you have an alloy centre from a 310. You have a 1200 sedan right? This would mean it's a H145 going by it's torque tolerance.

The diff centre will suffice provided you don't hammer it too much. I had a heavily worked A12 that butchered the diff centre once I resorted to some 13 x7 watanabe's- this was because the larger traction surface area of the watanabe wheels transferred most of the shock back through drive line. So, basically if you stick to narrow profile wheels the only thing that will break is traction ( = wheel spin).

The gearbox will be fine, it will only fail after repeated abuse (ABUSE) and I would bet that the diff centre would fail before the gearbox did.

310 diffs were H190
B310 diffs were H150

in any case, bigger than an H145.
