Just wanted to check with the experts, what is the smallest gap you should have between your rim and the strut? I know different wheels/offset/strut combos provide different outcomes but how small can the gap be? This is my situation at the moment..... is it enough or do i nees a spacer? Also, while we are here, is anyone able to ID the strut for me or what its from?

You need 2mm between rim and strut. More important is the clearance between the tire and the strut.

agreed, need more clearance for the tyre as the sidewall flexes it will rub on strut. run spacers if you want or a bit more neg offset would be better.

what struts you using?

The gap is currently about 6-7mm at the moment between the rim and the strut.

messure the strut tube ,if iots 45ish mm then its either 120y or 1200 ,does it have disc brakes ?

if it has 51ish mm tube then it is from a larger datsun and is abit harder to identify

looks like 120y/1200 though

i've got about 2mm clearance. running 15" steel rims and had the offset changed for legal reasons. also had to change tyres from 195/50's to 175/55's. just on the tyre topic, would they flex that much if at all at the top of rotation?

I had 5mm on my old 910 struts and never had a problem, also ran 8mm gap on my 200b struts with no problems!
Measure the strut tube, if 51mm then remove hub and measure stub axel thickness and caliper bolt spacing and you'll be able to find out what struts you have
But the look to be standed cups on so will either be 45mm 1200/120y struts or 51mm early stanza struts

Or just read the part number on the strut, about 1/2 way down facing out.

H11 or H51 are Datsun 1200/early ute/early B210 (small spindle)

H74 are late B210 or 1200 ute (large spindle)

front wheels:

clearance from disc brake hub & strut

5.5j ideal offset = +14
6.5j ideal offset = +12
7.0j ideal offset = +10

normaly safe gap between 5-10mm from rim & strut
