Just had the slipping clutch in my Subi 01 Forester replaced and noticed that the clutch pedal is very light, its almost like there is no clutch pressure at all but it works fine!?!? The old clutch had some feel to it and more pressure under foot. Anyone have ideas as to the cause? Pumping the pedal does not change anything, so thinking that its not air in the system. Maybe he fitted a cheap inferior clutch? Any help would be welcome, Cheers.

Well if it works fine...
Test it going up a hill in top gear at lower speeds, make sure it does not slip under full power.
Maybe the old one was non-stock and therefore heavier than stock.

stock clutch in non turbo ones is very light nige. so chances are its the pressure plate not the clutch thats making it like a girls car (which they are)

Maybe re-used old pressure plate which is now softer than the peeps that buy them :) nah really these cars are hard to work in, CV joints often suffer, fave choice for Jewish drivers that only drove Volvos which annoyed everyone on the road & off it. Old pressure plate for sure or your Leg is used to HD pressure plate in datto.

Re-using a clutch cover (pressure plate) is fine unless it is damaged. They don't often go soft. They often get chattered though.
Is there anything wrong with your new clutch?

Thanks guys (even Mik!), I'll do the uphill test DD and see how it goes but otherwise it works perfectly, It just feels like there is no clutch there anymore. Maybe the previous owner fitted a heavyer duty clutch?
The repairer said that clutches become heavyer over the space of a couple of years and that all is well.

I had a Mazda 323 daily that went really soft then disintegrated over a railway pass not good.

so i can use a new clutch disc on my extreme clutch in my ute? its just started the slip .i adjusted the cable off abit and it has helped alot ,doesnt slip as much ,but it still slips into third if i do a stand still
when i put the locker in it would bite up hard and bog down then slowly pick up ,but now it just slips D:
hope you get it fixed nige ,might not have had any grease on the fork before the clutch was done ? or maybe there was a spring in the bellhousing that pulls back on the fork ,maybe it wasnt hooked back up
good luck buddy!

Do it right away. Because a slipping clutch will quickly burn the metal surfaces of the flywheel and clutch cover.
As the clutch disc wears, it becomes thinner, and the clutch cover will not clamp it as tight. At the limit it will slip.
If the metal surfaces are not burnt, a new disc will make it like new.
Burnt surfaces will usually chatter/grab.
