About once per two months, at very low speed in first gear, my ute goes BANG and halts. It won't go forward, drive forward or roll forward until I back it up a ways. It rolls/drives in reverse fine.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I looked at the brakes, they seem to be assembled correctly and not missing any parts. They work excellently.

Could it be the transmission? I'm not certain if it happens when i'm shifting to 2nd or what, it happens so fast I can't remember exactly the details, and then when freed up everything works fine. As I recall it only occurs when the engine is cold, having first started out. I've driven it 1000s of kilos and never has it occured at speed.

Had something similar with the rear brakes on my ute. The rear wheel cylinders slide on the backing plate when you apply the hand brake. If dirt and water get under the rubber boot the cylinder can start to seize up on the backing plate and lock the brake on. To fix you need to remove the wheel cylinder clean and apply grease so if can move without sticking. Worth looking at maybe.

Something floating around in the diff ends up jamming the ring and pinion. . .

Push it back it drops out, repeat intermittantly. . .

Possibly. . .

Looks a bit different to my ute, on it the large spring goes on the bottom, (near the slave cylinder, and the small springs go at the top. Also the handbrake lever comes in differently. Hope it fixes your problem.

Nah, the brakes are correct, just that the spring snapped off. They are self-adjusting brakes like the N10 Pulsar.
