Hey Guys,
Sorry for another what colour should I paint my car thread but I'm really stuck.
To give you some back ground my Datto is a 1974 1200 Ute completely stock except for front disc brake swap, small 13' chrome mags and brown interior (should be black according to wiki??). It is currently white but paint is in extremely bad condition.

I intend to keep it pretty much in this same condition other than a respray. I immediately thought keep original colours as it will have better resale. Problem with original colours idea is I'm having a hard time just finding out exactly what original colours were available for that specific year and model. I know the wiki has some good info but colour specific to utes in early 70's seems vague to me...

On top of that part of me thinks if I'm paying good money to have my car resprayed I should choose whatever colour I like, especially since technically the ute isnt completely original anyway(brake swap, wheels, interior colour)...

Current condition pic attached

Ideas/thoughts?

Whites always neutral and classic. Will match the color code on the plate then

First question: are you going for a complete respray ... inside and out ? if not then go white

Second question: What else are you prepared to alter? Brown interior with some colours would be horrible

Q1: Yes complete respray (other than possibly avoiding engine bay, might do that black)

Q2: Interior is being converted back to black

Ok .... obvious response is that Red cars go faster. white cars don't get as much unwanted attention.

I chose a Ford Blue and did it all myself in acrylic and then clear coats. But if I were to do it again I might go for a Mazda Green

oh.... and do the engine bay please

Nice, I will be paying someone to paint the datto as I want 2 Pac. I have resprayed a few cars myself before when I was younger but dont have the time or patience to do it again.

Possibly a silly question but if you masked up and disconnected everything that is easily removed could you respray the engine bay without taking out the motor? Looks like lots of room with normal A12 in there...

I thought most utes had brown/tan interiors stock?

This is only a decision you can make cause you will be the one that has to wake up every morning and look at it and drive it.

I wouldn't worry bout changing the colour if that's what you want. By the way your describing the car it's not a perfect mint example so you won't be ruining it by changing the colour. I wouldn't worry about resale either if you're looking at spending money on a car.

You probably could spray the engine bay with the engine in it but if you go to the effort to disconnect everything etc then getting a hoist is probably not going to be too much more effort so as demacoz said spray the bay.

Also make sure you have the coin to go through with it.

I have my ute painted in a seduce pearl Red (house of kolor) - its like this ford mustang.

Now just as a heads up it is not cheap to have it done properly, get the ute soda blasted so its not so rough on the car and get it all panel beated. I was looking for mine at a cost of $13,000.00 to get it done the way i wanted. At first i wanted it to be a candy apple red but it would have cost an arm and a leg.

Lucky for me i have a mate as a panel beater and one of my best mates was an apprentice sprey painter at the time which was good as they get all the work for me and i gave a helping hand to weld up the tail gate and what not.

But a full body sprey and engine bay is not cheap with laybor.

Just make sure you have the coin if your wanting a pro to do it for you in a pearl or 2pac
