Can be sure, but I've been told the bolt pattern is the same between the front wheel & rear wheel drive motors, so the transmission from a Navara will be useable. Replacing the distributor with a crank trigger & direct fire coils on the plugs should work.

Other than distributor, guys here dont use fwd version because motor mounts differ. Not a problem for us, but the 510 guys want to use rwd so it bolts in

Whichever one you want. In Japan they came in D21 and D22 "Datsun Truck". In north america they came in S13 and S14 "240SX" and in D21/D22 "Hardbody Pickup" and WD21/WD22 "Pathfinder".

D21 gearboxes comes in three different lengths. But the 71C never used the shortest length as far as I know.

The 26.5" transmission tail housing length is the stumpy, is it not?

so if i was to use a front wheel drive KA24 motor i can use the r30 stumpy 5 speed out of our r30 skylines here in australia? just looking at wether to do a sr20det conversion or turbo the KA24. also would it be better to start of with a KA24 de or KA24E. i hear alot of good things about turboing the KA24 but is that a better option than doing a sr20det swap? whats peoples thoughts

There are differences in the KA motors. The best to find is the S14 or 240sx which provides the most HP. I believe the tranny bolt patterns are all the same. You may have Dizzy access issue on a front wheel drive KA in a rwd application. I am using the S14 motor with a 720 pickup tranny which I believe is shorter than the 240sx tranny.
If you can get the DE, skip the E motor. More HP is better.
You can check out my thread. My next step is fabbing a location to bolt down the motor mounts. I've been busy with other stuff but will be back at it shortly.

That's funny, because many people that have run both like the KA24E better. Something about the torque curve. 12-valve vs 16-valve. For drag racing more HP is better if you have the right gearing.

Either one is a great motor.

R30 didn't have a KA engine option. But KA uses the same bellhousing pattern as the Z-series engines. So Z or KA transmissions may be used.
