I remember reading done one is using the ke55 corolla bw68, just wondering how much wider it is than a 120y version? Also anyone found any LSD or similar for these? I know there were Gemini that used the bw68 diff too but I can't find the info I had on them. Cheers

Who is using the ke55 corolla bw68?

You can find some information in our tech article: BW68. It is same width as 120Y japan-built rear axle assembly.

I used the Corolla BW68. It is wider than the 120Y BW68. Can't remember exactly how much wider, but it matched the track of the stanza front end pretty much perfectly. That was one reason for using it, the other was it came with 3.9, 4.1 & 4.3 ratios, whereas the 120Y only had 3.9. I don't know of any LSDs available for them. I locked mine.

I used the 120Y BW68 input flange on the Corolla diff. The diff mounting plates just fit the 1200 leaf springs. It might be 5 or 10mm wider between mounts, but that's not a problem.

They're pretty strong. Even the year we ran with the Stewart Wilkins 146rwbhp engine, with 2 drivers dual entering the car everwhere, and warm-up burnouts at hillclimbs etc, it only broke 1 axle at the 1st meeting because of an axle tramp problem. After sorting the axle tramp with the leaf springs, it stood up to the power absolutely fine.

this was it when I first fitted the Corolla diff. It has Stanza front struts and brakes. 13x6 and 205/60 tyres all round. Flared/pumped gaurds all round.

and this was it with the 13x7 -7 Superlites with 205/60 tyres and bolt on flares.

68 vs 78 is that the size difference eg. 10mm?? if so Mick best shorten a common hoe LSD unit instead of 1200 usd plus shipping, join the Gemini forums someone might know if Geminis came with them or Isuzus GT coupe 117 versions in Japan?

Only AUS-built Geminis came with the australian Borg Warner. Japan built Gemini/Isuzu came with Japanese axle assemblies.

The M68 versus M78 is 1 inch difference.
M68: 6.75 inch ring gear
M78: 7.75 inch ring hear

M68: 8 bolt octagonal cover
M78: 9 bolt octagonal cover

The M78 was used by some GM international vehicles. The circa 1987 Camaro used them here in United States and so LSD is common for them.

The Gemini guys use a sailabury LSD too. Rare but could be found in some 6 cyl commodores. The bw68 version seem bit better unless can track down an ae86 rear end. that would be better for sure.
