hi i was wandering if i could use the z37 oil filter on my a12 (120y) instead of the z145a which i always use but seems a bit smaller.

why is thier 2 filters for one engine? which is better? and which size came onm the engine from factory?

Thanks!

Ryco Z37 will work. It is 143mm high.

1970-1973 Datsun 1200 came with Nissan Filter 15208-H1010 115mm height.

The one filter is for the A12 in one car, the other is for the A12 in a different car. The 1200 can use very tall filters, some of the other vehicles need shorter one. Later they consolidated service parts so one filter serves two different vehicles.

Generally speaking the best filter is the one that meets the spec for the least amount of money. Larger filters last longer, but cost more. But if you change your oil filter often it is a moot point. With a large filter you can change the filter every 2nd oil change -- in other words, it allows an extended service interval.

It will fit the A12 engine. Wether the 120Y has enough room to fit the 143mm long filter, well ... measure it

Also note that Ryco Z37 and Ryco Z442 have a different seal. It makes no difference, since all A-series engines use the same oil pump sealing face. I've run both types in my 1200.

I've been using a Z386 for some time now, nice small filter that fits well. Its off a 90's model corolla. Seems much better than the large original ones.

How does it seem better? Smaller filters have less filtering ability.
