How do I refurbish alloy wheels that have lost a bit of their clear and have some corrosion?
I have a set here that I have polished with fine grit wet-dry and then a metal polish, then I waxed them to try to seal them up, but they become corroded again quickly. The parts that I didn't polish also have blemishes where the clear is coming off.
If I cut them back completely and paint them with clear, will the paint stick to a polished surface? Will regular clear paint look ok, and survive the heat?

Depends on the exact wheel I have polished billet alloy wheels but they don't have any clear on them just got to keep the polish up.but I'd say a 2pak clear coat would work

Hydroflouric acid to brighten them (don't breathe any of it, less than 30mg can be fatal, don't touch it either because it absorbed through the skin alarmingly fast) then fine wet and dry, then purple polish and use a high temp clear like for brakes or whatever

Any trace of wax must be removed before clear coating, not sure if acid removes that.
