Hello. Sort of new to this site. Anyway thought I may aswell make a build thread.
I bought a 1200 ute.

Looked smick, a15, straight, nice paint, 120y front end.
So I tried to put 13's on the front (came with 15s) and the wheels wouldn't work because they didn't have big enough back spacing. The hubs were the big bearing type so I got the stanza front end and put it in.

The springs in the stanza struts were quiet low so I had to lower the rear, so I flipped the second leaf to the top, still wasnt low enough so added 2 inch blocks so it sits level now but problem now is that it sits on bump stops so slides well but not so much handle. Now the problem, because I lowered I had to lip the gaurds, no problems got the hammer and starting tapping the lip and the bog started just appering.

So then it turned into a project sadly but awwell. So I brought a gx head, 35/70 cam, nismo head gasket and put them on. Ran great, then one day it wouldn't idle but drove fine. It didn't faze me thought it was just the carbie, then it started pumping blue smoke out the rocker breather and as if the head gasket wasnt between 3 and 4 cyl so I took the engine out and removed the head, everything looked fine. I then called Ernie (bigE) and he was confident that it had shat a ring. Removed the 4th post and it had a cracked 2nd compression ring but all the ring land was shattered so new engine is now happening with a fair bit of work done to it to hopefully not get that problem again. Apparently had more then 12:1 comp so yeah.

So as it sits now. Engine less, gaurd cut out and repairing rust

Get photobucket, easiest way for uploading pics.

If big e on the case engine wise should be fine.

So under the exterior it's all bog?

Yeah I'm all new to this.
Yeah his built my new engine, knows what is doing and a good guy.

Well I'm not sure yet about the bog but on the drivers rear gaurd it was about 10-15mm thick but when I stripped the paint further up the guard, the bog got thinner basically down to nothing. I know there's some at the rear of the quater because it has cracked the paint and separating. The sills look solid but who knows aye after seeing the gaurd.

Cheers

Ha yeah. I'm max obrien but yeah anyway.

Bit of back ground. First car was an ae71 the I thrashed the living piss out of and done a 6hr 4age conversion (includes taking the 4age out of my mates car). I then own Afew ke70s. Then brought a ae86 with Afew/a lot of mods, slid out at 120 over a crest around a comer and hit a gutter/rock wall and shattered a rim and wrapped my rotors. I sold that and brought the datsun.

Hi Max welcome to the site & Datsuns. The ute looks good. Might be that a previous owner had a hit in that corner & filled it with bog rather than fixing it properly. Hope thats all you find. As for the rear spring, you can get springs with the main spring turned upside down, called reverse eye springs. These fit above rather than below the hangers front & rear so they lower the ride height but still have full movement. You can then get rid of the lowering blocks. You just have to adjust the bump stops a little (usually cut them down a bit with a hacksaw). The ute is a taily car already without the rear springs going solid. You should be able to get the springs done through a specialist like you had the second spring done. Peddars will sometimes get them for you, as a former owner of a franchise got a lot of suspension parts made & catelogued for 1200's. It depends on who the peddars owner is & what he knows. I notice your from the Central Coast of NSW, if you can get down to Peddars at Brookvale, the owner rallys/motorkhanas a 120Y sedan. He could probably get you those springs if they still are available.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

Yeah cheer mate. I was looking into them. Also did some research into putting spaks coilovers in the rear and a 2 link set up but it's only a ute, and I use it for work. It handled fairly well when it wasnt on the bump stops.

Cheers
