Does anyone know if the studs on the timing cover, where it attaches to the oil pan, are glued cast or threaded into the cover.

Long story short: idiot mechanic was rushing (me) and I managed to screw up the cam timing (exhaust valve just touching piston. I ended up popping the cover off with the motor in the car (used an impact to snap the off the studs) If the studs are threaded in it saves me from drilling and taping so I can reattach the cover to the pan .

I broke my rule of never entering an event unless the car is up and running, with the head delayed I foolishly assembled the bottom end and installed it...........normally I would test fit everything............in the words of Homer Simpson "DOH!!"

Short of that, if replacing the busted studs isnt fixed easily, swapping out the whole timing cover is very straight forward. If you get stuck Tom, I have a few spare covers you can have for free [just cover the cost of postage]
