Hey guys, just purchased myself a Datsun 1200 Ute with an A15 with extractors. Was wondering what cams would be good to add some power and a lumpy'ish idle. Cheers, Cody

Use the same cams as A14, as the bore size and RPM rev-ability is the same. The later A15 comes with a mild cam, earliest A15 comes with the high-RPM cam (same as A14). This stock early is good for 5000 to 6000 RPM power and has a smooth idle.

For higher power (higher revs) use a higher duration cam which will also give a lumpy idle. It will result in less power below 5000 RPM, but more power above 6000 RPM -- if you have a larger than stock carburetor.

For example, Auckland Cams #566 239/239 Lopey idle 4000-7000 RPM. See Camshafts.

Thanks. Will I need to raise compression ration and valve springs though?

Tomei are now also making "street" cams for A-series.
Their cams are expensive but it would be worth it.
