On the subject of A14 Gearboxes etc. I thought I'd share the woes I'm currently having... And am yet to resolve.

Last time I wrote I was having some dramas with a vibration in the driveline. Not much has changed since. It all started when I dropped in a 2nd hand 'box (the original had a cracked
bellhousing).

The source of the problem "appears" to be coming from where the tailshaft sleeves into the gearbox output shaft. There is heaps of movement at this point, the tailshaft is moving around all
over the shop and looks (and feels) as though it's ready to fall out. The clearance at the diff is 20mm (3/4") when the tailshaft is fully in at the gearbox end and i've been told that this
is what it should be.

The extension housing bush has been replaced (cost a fortune), i've checked (and had checked) the tailshaft uni's and even dropped the old 'box back in (with a new front housing). But nothing
is fixing the problem. I must have spoken to about a dozen people about this, but can't get a logical answer.

I've narrowed it down to either the bush (which was custom made and is the most likely culprit), the uni's, tailshaft out of balance and/or the angle the gearbox is sitting at.

Has anyone had this sort of thing happen, or can offer their thoughts / suggestions?

I've been told the driveshaft uses 'Holden' uni's. Which model and where I can pick some up from?

Does anyone (in the Sydney area) have an old Sunny 4 speed kicking around that is willing to part with the extension housing and/or a driveshaft so I may be able to isolate the problem?

Cheers

I've got an 1200 sedan A12 with auto and any driveline bits you want for free. Take it away. I've cut up the sedan for panels. I'm willing to send the mechanicals to a
good home. Including diff and tailshaft. Although the diff hasn't been removed yet. Even though the front has been completely cut up. I'm in Strathfield, Sydney.
Drop me an email and I'll give you some details.
