The pickups for both the 1200 & Sunny are just pipes, no filter or anything special. I had a lot of problems with fuel pick up with a 1200 wagon I had with a fuel injected A14. Even with a larger pickup, it would fuel surge when the tank was under a quarter full. Also, one particular Sunny I've had for years would not maintain a head of fuel, but when I fitted a baffled tank with a larger pickup closer to the bottom of the tank, I never had any more problems. It would even pickup what dregs were in the tank after the drain plug had stopped running. I've now moved that tank on to another car & am having problems with fuel pick up again. Removing the standard pick ups & replacing with larger pipes always cut down on fuel surge, but the design of the tank with a large area where the fuel can slosh around, particularly on right hand corners, leads to the fuel running away from the pickup. With carby's, the fuel bowl hides this, unless you're full throttle for a while. With injection, it's instantly a problem, which is why most injected cars run a small sump or baffling around the pick up, like on the R31 Pintara/Skyline. As mentioned earlier, I had a Sunny tank baffled & a larger pickup put in, by a Radiator specialist at Parramatta, for about $200. I have plans to get the same done again but with a Navara in-tank fuel pump & pick up. Maybe the local radiator guys can help you fit larger outlets & baffling. Fitting larger fuel outlets etc, is something I've left to professionals, due to the possibility of the petrol fumes exploding.
