I've noticed this before but with the distributor plate firmly bolted to the distributor and the block you can still wiggle the whole unit. This is not to be confused with worn shaft, you can grab the whole body and wiggle it. Has anyone else noticed this? I test fit several in both the A12 and the A15 block.

Yes, I've seen that before. If I recall it was when using a modified hold-down plate (timing plate). Didn't seem to bother the running of the engine.

The movement that you noted would seem to be due to a slightly loose fit between the distributor body and the block.
You could use shimming to reduce that play.
I have used aluminum foil for very thin shims and beer can metal for somewhat thicker ones. You can easily buy shim stock, I usually buy mine from model building shops.

Yes I have seen foil used for a shim before and it does indeed work.
