I took the coupe to an Auto-X on the 1st and while I know it's petty and small I did enjoy beating the likes of Evo's and ZR1 Vettes, I ran a friends open wheeler a little over a year ago and managed 3rd overall but hadn't run driven the 1200 at an Auto-X in probably 2 years. I wasn't happy with my morning runs I was kind of choppy but ended up 15th out of 97. Naturally I should have improved in the afternoon but the jetting is still a bit fat and not quite right (cam change) so as it warmed up the car was down on power and so I never managed to go faster..........so I tumbled to 30th overall. Naturally I drowned my ego with the petty pleasure of beating all but 2 of the Vettes all of the EVO's (especially the newbie who gave my car condescending looks) and all but one WRX.

There were 3 Datsuns; 10th for a 240Z (excellent driver always runs well) 30th for me and 37th for a 510 driver. My main intent was to shake down the car. The alignment is really off and as mentioned the jetting is off as well but don't tell me ego I was a bit choppy, I pitched away at least 3 of the 7 runs with various mistakes............it was fun and it is nice to surprise people with an old car.

I can't get to snooty as a buddy ran 3rd overall in his stock class Civic but he has won a national championship and his car makes huge power.....116 at the wheels in what he calls a wrong wheel driver wagon.

On a serious note it is nice that 1200 can still be a competitive car at local Auto-X, realistically at a national event the car would get slaughtered. New cars have a much wider track and really are packaged better.

I am going to trying and make more events this year and am looking to get into the top ten regularly but road racing will still be the focus. 2014 will mark the 25th year since I took the car to an Autocross.
