From the factory, there are pegs that hold the rubber mats in place. You can use those to hold the carpet in place.

Goes up this high

I'm assuming you bought one of the moulded car carpets.

Normally these are slightly oversized and will need some final trimming once you've got it sitting nicely in place.

You will need to cut a small slit on the drivers side to allow the accelerator pedal to come up through it.

You should have aluminium sill plates which screw on along the bottom of the door openings and you want to leave enough carpet to tuck under these to help hold the carpet down...the hard bit is trying to find the screw holes again through the carpet.

You also need to leave some carpet to tuck up under the side kick panels, but not to much or the kick panels won't sit right.

Apart from this you should have a centre console or at least some sort of gear stick cover/boot and the handbrake cover to hold it down in the middle.
That's about all you need to hold it down. However as DD mentioned you may find some small plastic pegs with a screw in the middle around the floor or up on the firewall which were used to help hold down the original plastic/rubber matt. The original Matt had small holes punched in it just big enough to stretch over the pegs to help locate it. So you could use these also..but not really necessary.

Hope this helps...have fun!

Datsun 1200 original carpet did not come up the sills or kick panels.

It doesn't go under the cardboard, but goes up about as far.

The moulded carpets are different to the original and do tuck under sill plates and kick panels.
Makes them a bit tidier around the edges as they do not have bound edges.
