Ummm, maybe we should think about this matey. As a sparky, I assume you know very little about mechanics, so no hard feelings!
If the engine rotates in the opposite direction, and you are running a standard diff, then there will be more reverse gears, it all depends on what side the pinion is to the crownwheel in relation to which way the engine spins...
A differential is called what it is because it changes the 'direction' of the tailshaft spinning to the axles, and this can be in either way....
If the pinion is on one side it will spin back, if on the other, forward, logic! This is found in plenty of school books!
There are some older model trucks with diffs that can be put in wrong resulting in lots of reverse gears!
Gearboxes use idler gears to go into reverse, 3 gears instead of 2. Driver gear transfering to the idler/middle gear changing the direction to the driven gear = Reverse.
The s2000 gbox would suit the direction of the s2000 engine and Diff. If different, would not suit the Nissan/Datsun rotation.
Assuming you use a s2000 engine and box, you would need a diff to suit its direction.
Have a little think about it....
Not only can b310gx make good pizzas, he has actually taught you something you thought you knew!
Personally I would be looking into a more promising diff for the application.
Cheers!
