I looked in the service manual and it does not show a spade connector on the vacuum advance. Although it does unscrew from the distributor, I can only assume someone put it on as an after thought, for what, I have no idea.

As it is Vacuum there is no need for a electrical connection.

it's a place to hook up an additional ground wire, IF you want to.
unless you really need an extra ground, don't worry about it.

So this spade terminal is ON the vacuum advance, right? Cant say I have ever seen one. There is a spade terminal on the side of the dizzy that has a wire from the factory wiring loom plug onto it, is this what you are talking about?

its sort of on the extension from the dizzy which the vacuum advance is mounted on/in, i had a look at my brother in laws car today and he had a wire from it to a bolt on the starter motor (as an earth) i asked him and he said it was like that when DatRally built the motor for him so it must be an earth, only one of my a-12's has it on it (1200 one has/120y one hasnt)

Like everyone has said it is just an earth connection point!
Some dizzies have this and some don't!

Like most car maufacturers their engineers put things like this just to make sure the dizzy has a ground, but they don't solely rely on this wire as the engine it self is metal and provides an earth connection!

As long as your car has a solid earth wire from the battery negative to the body and one to the engine you will have no problems!
