In the course of swapping out wheels and installing wheel studs I discovered my axles had about 3mm of end play!!!!
This is a H190 (510/roadster 23 spline type); what I notice is the backing plates have a 3mm recess in them as if either the bearing or housing would protrude into this i.e. sit proud of the mounting surface where the 4 bolts that hold the backing plate are. The end of the my axle housing is a flat surface so once you bolt the backing plate it's possible to pull the axle and thus the bearing into the recess. Also note I have no shims on the axle so can't remove anything to close the gap.
So questions for those experienced with H190s is if the end of the axle housing flat is the backing plate flat or have the 3mm recess??
I have managed to come up with some hillbilly fix spacers ( old 73 piston rings filed so,the fit perfect and seat against the outer race) and have the end play down to 12 thousands of an inch. While this will work I want to have everything factory. Who knows what this has been doing to the handling, not sure it's huge but one never knows......I have a race next weekend, I'll know by the second lap now that it is at least in spec. Silly me when I installed the H190 I ASSumed it would be correct.......

Any help or enlightenment would be appreciated.
