I found parts with prices in the USA (newautoparts.com) but they don't respond to email and put me on hold when I tried to call up on an international call. all I wanted to do was get a quote on the shipping and verify that they can actually get the parts.

Has anyone else tried this and did it all end in tears?

I have used another dealer for several online orders. In my experience some of those parts are available but most are not

Like Nissan dealers everywhere, some are better than others. I used Olympia Nissan ( http://nissanparts.cc) and talked to Russell at car shows. They are OK. Do it all online including email. Orders from Japan take 3 weeks and are often rejected. Nissan in my opinion has a poor catalog system. Russel promptly refunds if that happens.

* The pads & hoses are available everywhere
* Lenses? Doubtful. They are wrong color for AU in any case.

Nissan
* Most body parts are NLA in America. 1200 bonnet is available.
* Most engine parts are available.
* Don't even ask unless you have a Nissan part number
* Many 1200 parts which are same as B120 are still available like inside mirror at far less cost than eBay

Most maintenance parts are available in any auto parts store including rotors, hoses, points, etc.

RockAuto.com
They ship internationally. Prices are low but shipping is high.

No one in USA sells repro body panels

In the last 3-4 years, suppliers have been closing inventory on 1200 parts. So availability is decreasing while bargains are increasing. Nissan it seems like has stopped small batch production since about 2005 and only sell remaining stock.

You might also try a freight forwarding place like usatoaus? I can't remember exactly which one was talked about at work, sounded something like that. There are a number of places around that will buy on your behalf and find the cheapest way to ship it to you (for a fee but it ends up cheaper).
