Cams are different; the A12 cam only has one drive gear at the front of the cam which turns both the oil pump & distributor. The A14 has two gears, one at the front for the oil pump and one in the middle for the distributor.

The timing chain covers will swap just be aware that there are differences when it comes to timing marks. Two styles of covers, one has a single timing mark for TDC and then one has marks in increments of 5 degrees. There is a corresponding pulley, one with a single mark that goes with the cover that has multiple marks and the other pulley has multiple marks to go with the single mark cover.

I actually use the multi mark cover with the multi mark pulley so I can see up to 40 degrees of advance but this is for a race motor.........note you can screw yourself up if you are not careful.

Exactly right when comparing early (1970-1973) cam with A14 cam.

A12 cams have the same gear arrangement as A14 cam (gear for distributor and fuel pump), except for early (B110) cams.

* early A12 cam (1970-1973)
* late A12 cam (1973-1995)
* A14 cam

A12 cams come in two kine:
* Small duration for round-port cylinder head
* Long duration for GX cylinder head (6400 rpm)
A14 came is in-between the two A12 types, good for maximum power @ 6000 rpm in big bore engine
