I agree with these other guys.
I could break into most 1200s in under 10 seconds. Probably drive it off in under 60 seconds. Seriously, unless you sleep in the car, or never let it leave your sight, then someone can steal it. You may ask, why does this guy know how to break into Dattos so well. I can only say to beat a thief, you need to think like one. Things like: 1. removing the door-lock buttons. 2. Removing the door locks (Check registration reqs.) 3. Using the solex locks is good. 4. Decent club-style steering lock 5. Never (ever) park it when you go shopping at a a mall. (Walk, get a bus or taxi) 6. Garage it at home 7. Upgrade your steering column to a late model collapsible column, with the integrated steering lock.
Almost all anti theft devices are merely deterrants. Best you can do is make it really hard for thieves to get into your car. Kill switches are good and bad, I'd rather someone joyrided my car, rather than not be able to start it, and have them smash up the dash, and slash the seats etc. Installing kill switches, noisy alarms, and being very vigilant is the only way to keep your car safe. If you can afford it, buy a second car for the trips to the shops, etc. Make it a sh$tbox, and insure it. That way if someone trashes it, steals it etc. You won't feel bad, and the insurance covers your 'small investment'. Hyundais or Diahatsus are good for this.
Cheers, Chris.
ps. The Solex locks are pretty good. They certainly stop the "screwdriver brigade". You have to pull them apart every 6-12 months and fill them with a sticky waterproof lubricant. Using WD40 (RP7) is no good, and it tends to speed up the "Bi-metal corrosion", caused by the differing metals that make up the lock.
The locks are only easily popped out, if the securing plate that slides behind the lock to secure the barrel, is not made from high quality spring steel.
