just got a ZOOM mag from the milkbar, thought you guys might like to know bout th 1200's that got a mention

- rigolis fiat powered 1200 cops a nice photo from behind on launch with front wheel lifting
caption - "Vince Rigoli's 8-second ute is a crowd favorite thanks to its hard launches"

- a purple 1200 coupe gets photoed but apparently didnt complete a pass (Paul Staneks's apparently)

- a blue 13B coupe made a 8.55@154mph to make the top ten using methanol fuel

not bad 3 twelvies out of about 30 cars photoed for mag, there was all sorts of other stuff there quickest was a 7.78 second open wheel full on drag car

i cant believe when i watch cable tv which we just got sport on, the american drags have all these cars running 4 second passes at what works out to be well over 300 kmh, yet its rare to hear of a 7 second car here, or am i living under a rock?, these american things are obviously extreme drag cars which i dont think ive seen anthing like in aus but still are we really that far behind as far as drag racing goes over here?

these things are awesome, they just go so damn fast!, if they get any wheelspin they give up because the tyres just light up like mad and the other guys just about over the line already, and its not one or two cars doing this theres heaps of them in a couple of diffrent style cars all competing against each other like its an every day thing

FWIW, most 4-5 second Top Fuel dragsters run close to 300 MPH, not KPH. I think that translates to well over 500 kph?

As for why you don't see them down under? $$$$$! American companies spend the millions it takes to field a top level Top Fuel car. Aussies will follow suit soon enough I'm sure. Besides, you fellas seem to like the more interesting car sports like sedan racing (Touring Car).

yea these guys spend a ####e load on engineering, advertising etc, companies are founded on like a couple of cars plus its more drag racing funny cars and the other long ones aussies are more interested in standard motors built to perform on standard cars not ones that are built from the ground up and have totally different body shells and chassis.... supposedly in full body performance and rotarys etc south americans lead the way with aussies a fair way behind they have cars in the 6 sec brackets but in this class of racing americans are actually behind us not the other way around...

The Top Fuel and Funny Cars run a nitromethane mixture, rather than methanol. Not too good for a Datto street car. Nitro runs hot, and the motor can keep running even when the dizzy is blown off the engine.

These are strictly single-purpose engines (and cars). Generally the lifespan of the engine is 1/4 mile. They rebuild the engine after each pass, something like $125,000 per race. And $200 or $2000 per 1/4 mile for the fuel ... something crazy like that. This is mostly paid for by advertising. Beer companies generally have the top cars.

2 out of the three you named run alcohol burning cars, while the other has retired, but how about jim read, andrew cowin & steve reed, all who run rails using nitro.the difference between 98 % nitro & plain methanol is vast,& is easily detected by engine note & exhaust smell.love the smell of methanol, but nitro fumes are beyond belief. a friend of mine used to run top bike in the 70's,& it actually went faster on 3 cylinders,as he suddenly got traction, not 1/4 mile burnouts maskerading as runs.
