Hey guys,

Haven't been on here for a while due to all of my two laptops crushing down after a windows update on both of them months ago.Lost heaps of data/pics etc..Anyway just got another laptop so hopefully this one doesn't crush.

Sold my white ute ages ago and missed the fun i had with it,
So when the opportunity to get another ute came along, i promptly jumped on it.

This will be more of a progress with my new ute rather than a build.Nothing extra-odinary here...
Happy to sell her at any stage of the progress. And of course if the price im after doesn't suit certain buyer, please feel free to pass and get something that suits you ;)

I've got plenty of A-series parts and no good to me if not using them.So decided to buy another datsun 1200 ute and use my spares to build and complete it.

Plan is to put the vehicle for sale while i use it as a daily.Happy to keep it if not sold!

so bought this ute from winchelsea,Victoria.

Bought the car from an "elderly" owner.Previous owner had done all body work himself. He also owns a very well kept original paint minor morris.

When buying old cars, I personally go for body condition over mechanicals. Its always my first priority. So either i buy a car with original paint or buy a car with proof of bodywork performed. You never know how much bog or whats under old painted cars.

Previous owner personally fixed all rust and rust proofed the vehicle. This was his project but due to terminal medical reasons, had to let it go.The vehicle is very straight and previous owner went all out to make sure it was rust free.

I have to say i was impressed by his workmanship but also abit sad as the skills this elderly guys had isn't being passed on to newer generations. In short, future generations won't be as highly skilled...

Now the car has many colour schemes lol...He wanted a morano?colour stripe scheme all over the car but the wife stopped him haha.So only the front "bottom" panel got the treatment.

The owner replaced any panel which had very minimal rust for panels which had no rust.I had a look at the original panels i.e the doors, fenders and was quite shocked that the panels were entirely replaced because of very very minor rust spots!
I will be getting the original panels fixed and prob installed back.

A 1200 ute in colac had an accident on the front right side, so the previous owner got to salvage it of its doors, front left fender, and its tailgate to this ute.

The pics above are at a mates house in clayton.
Left it there until i bled the brakes and got good tires.
Decided to get some spare rims i had at my place with good tires. The tires on the pics above were not ideal.

I also decided to quickly remove the grill for a quick paint in gloss black. Also painted the side "vents"? in matt black to match the matt black steelies before heading for home.

I will sell the car with a spare grill so new owner can get the grill "professionally" painted. It was good enough for me.

Also bled the front drum brakes. The weight at the back helped alot with the braking haha.

This is the model with the charcoal canister.Previous owner had changed carby and its original manifold. He had also disconnected some wiring.I tried tightening the four bolts on the base of carby but that gasket was still leaking..

Car was also driving and behaving as a turbo car with lag.So it would hesitate to accelerate then all of a sudden just really get going.Car also had its gearbox thrust bearing gone as it was very noisy.Clutch was also on its way out.

Previous owner had just finished body work and about to start on its mechanicals when he sold it.Even so,Engine, gearbox and diff feel very good and strong.

anyway a couple of progress pics.

So got the car home,
My cat,Harry, didn't waste anytime to inspect it.Don't know his obsession with old cars.
He loved sleeping in the back of my old 1200 ute.If not there then on top of coupes bonnet.
