It takes less than two cans. Originally was R12

When I had my old car regassed with the r134a the mechanic also changed the throttling valves to suit the new gas since the condenser/ evaporator pressures are a little different. Dunno if that's relevant but might help you out.

Its not necessary, but is recommended because R134a doesn't cool as good as R12. The good news is that R12 is still legal here in USA for old cars although it costs more than R134a

New cars are being switch over to R1234yf. Already R134a has been banned in the EU, and although still legal in USA they are phasing in R1234yf, it's the same process as switching from R12, make sure the compressor oil is compatible and the labels are updated

Hi
Thanks for the info about the gas
What I need is a solinoid which raises the idle on the carb when the ac is turned
on so the engine will not stall
Can any one help me with a part number or alternative

The easiest thing to do is set your idle for 800 RPM, it'll run good whether or not the compressor is running. The downside is its a bit noisier at 800 RPM compared to 700 RPM

* From 1978-1988 there was no special idle adjuster
* In 1989 they added the FICD. You can get the parts off a B310 sunny or other 1980s Datsun-Nissan
