Hello.
I'm form Portugal and recently my father gave me a 2 door 1200 in need of a big restoration and the green light to do whatever I want with it.
And I want to do an engine swap. But I can't decide between the SR20DET and the RB26 (N/A). I want to do something never seen before, and the SR20DET swap was been done before. But I've never seen and RB26 in a 1200. Why?
I do know I will need to do a lot of modifications to the car an reinforcements for it to take the high HP and torque of any of the engines.
Anyway, any input on this subject will be highly appreciated!
Best regards form Portugal!!

bem-vindo

Because the RB26 weighs as much as a V8 engine
* V8: fits within engine room
* RB: longer
* SR20DET: 149kg
* RB26DE: 250kg

even Z24 block is better than KA24
plus ka24de is done he stated
not done before on as 1200

Sorry, but what is an L series engine? Forgot to mension, bu I want to stay true to the Nissan family (only Nissan engines). Also, to fit the RB26 in the 1200 I would have to cut the firewall right?
Thanks for the help so far!!

An L series engine comes in many sizes starting at L16 from a 1600 up to an L28 from a 280zx 2800cc You should check out the L20 engine from a 200B

Keep it all real, keep it Nissan

L-series engine is from Datsun 510, 180B, and Datsun 240Z/Fairlady Z

It has been done before

Yes, to fit any straight six-cylinder not only will the firewall is cut, but part of the engine will sit beside the driver. The 240Z six is almost identical external size to the BMW six

I weighed a Nissan vg30et at 152kgs with flywheel, turbo, water pump and manifolds. That's light for a 3 litre that can develop well over 400 WBHP with stock internals after turbo, fuel and computer changes. It's also a small package. There are factory bell housings that bolt up to the T5 gearbox which is probably the most common box in the world. That box also offers lots of after market options for c/r gearsets too.
