I'd be very interested to hear what tyre sizes the chaps with racing 1200's with A series engines are using.
I had a race meeting yesterday at our local track Ruapuna and are rapidly coming to the conclusion that the Kumho 175x60x13's that I am using are simply not big enough for the job as there is just too much drifting and sliding going on for my liking.( the rears were new but I have never experienced them taking too long to bed in )
Whether or not its my overall suspension settings exacerbating things I don't know but something seems amiss...
My biggest problem is tat without pumping the rear guards thats the biggest size that I can get in there and we had to actually machine around 5mm out of the inner wheel to get the Kuhmo's to fit as they are wider that the Bridgestones and Dunlops that I have previously used.
Cheers
Dave

For drift racing they sound ideal. 185-width well fits the rear and 175 fits the front

175/60R13 are not as tall as 185/60R13 which I ran on the rear of my 1200 (they were fitted under stock 1200 bodywork using GM 13x5 steel wheels). Others have run even larger tyres

185/60R13 tyres

Wider tyres can be fitted (without flares) if the are small diameter

215/50R13 - rear of 1200 (poking out side of car)

Large diameter tyres can also be fitted, for example, 185/45R15 or 205/40R17 fit the front with flares after modify the wheelwell

DD,there is no way in hell that 185x60x13's will fit under my 1200. My turbo B110 had exactly the same issue but I got around that by pumping the rear guards.Perhaps its the mags that I am using but as I said the turbo car had exactlty the same issue with different mags.Or perhaps the ride height as its pretty low.
In fact i can remember years ago buying a set of 185x60x13 Yokahama A008R's and I couldn't even back out my drive without them severely rubbing on the inner guards ( and they have been massaged as much as I dare )
Bob, I believe the problem with the sedan is that it simply has not got the expanded inner guard that the coupe and ute enjoy so a 205 is completely out of the question.
Cheers

sedan and ute front clearances should be the same.
with some neg camber and some castor 205s should fit .You will have to modify the front of the guards a bit .And 6inch mags with the right offset.
Would have thought 205s would fit the rear on the right rims

LOWMION ,S seadan think they were Simmons Tyre size: front 15(195x45) Rear 15(205x55). He panel beated the flares out very slightly but never had internal rubbing.

Bob,
Should have made myself clearer- its the back thats the problem and the diff even has about 1/2 degree negative pressed into it.
Front end - no problem.

Dave I use a Hoosier Street TD vintage racing tire; while it's labelled a 185/60-13 it's a bias ply tire so it is not as big a 185 radial. Hossier's site has full specs but most important is the tire is only 20.6 tall.

I went to this tire because I have the same exact problem you are having. After installing the H190 and even after flattening the inner fender lip it was still an issue so I went to the aforementioned Hoosiers. If you do use the you'll need to reset the camber to 1- 1 1/2 degrees do to the nature of how bias ply tires work.

The car will move around more than on radials; while I'm comfortable with the 4 wheel drift everywhere nature of bias ply tires I realize not everyone is.

Thanks Tom,
The plot thickens- it appears after talking to Kumho here the 175x16x13's that I am using are a soft compound and the max recommended operating temp is 30 degrees - after that they start going off big time!
That may explain why the car hooks up and rockets off the line and is very strong for 3 -4 laps then starts to go off. In fact the 1st race of the day was an 8 lapper and the last 2 laps were interesting to say the least...
I really need to start doing this properly and start taking and writing down measurements to get some proper base line data!
Cheers
Dave
