So out of curiosity for my fellow racers which / what starter are you using.

I've managed to put another A15 together for my car and this one has 12-1 compression. On initial start up it didn't crank through as easily as the 11.9-1 motor did. I'm expecting the motor free up a bit. Note I'm using a non gear reduction type starter.

Tom - on my 13-1 A12 I'm using a rebuilt Bosch starter. (non-gear reduction) It cranks just fine. My fabricator added a #2 ground wire from the engine block to a bare metal ground point on the chassis to ensure a decent grounding circuit, which is quite important for a starter ground.

Stan I cranked it up for a split second last night and it seems fine. I think my issue is simply one of I was used to cranking up the 5 season motor which one would expect to crank a bit easier.

My block ground is attached to bare metal as well.

The best starter I ever used on A-series was a Bosch starter. It cranked well and lasted longer. Original 1200 starters were junk, though later A14 starters were OK

Stock Datsun 1200 uses a chassis-to-block ground wire, but these have sometimes been removed over the years

Bosch SR136X on special sale -- $33 at RockAutocom

Looks like a later Hitachi from a Datsun B310. These are the reliable 4-brush design and are 1.0KW instead of the original A12 0.9KW
