Hi All
So this weekend I drained the gearbox and diff oils. I struggled my butt loose to get the gearbox drain plug off but eventually managed using a pipe wrench which could grip the square plug nicely.
But before this I used a number 15 spanner which I eventually managed to bend to be more of a 16mm and also a adjustable wrench. this caused the bolt to be damaged on the square edges. can we still get these bolts somewhere or must I next time get someone to build up the edges with a tig weld and then just polish it square again.

I use a pipe wrench too. no need to "fix" it, just re-use it as is. If you want it to look pretty again, a new one can be purchased

Nissan 00931-10810 PLUG-FILLER TRANSMISSION $0.84. Nissan USA no longer sells it. On Ebay now

By the way, that plug was used by Nissan from 1966 to 2001
* filler plug 4-speed & 5-speed
* drain plug 4-speed

i believe it is a standard pipe thread part (british thread or metric thread I do not remember)

* drain plug 5-speed uses a different part with metric threaded bolt & washer used by various Nissans including 510 and Patrol

Be careful when tightening. As you discovered removing it, it is all too often over-tightened. On the 5-speed this can crack the adapter plate. The 4-speeds don't have this problem as the drain plug goes into the stronger extension casting

What also might have contributed to it is that the oil was never changed in 12 years time.
Done only +- 11000 km in that time frame.
