Some time again I bought a pair of Spaxs for a RS2000 Escort rear for my SSS off a well known motorsport website in the UK and right from day 1 I wasn't happy with them as one had a totally different rebound to the other.
I did alert the seller about this but they weren't overly helpful and I won't be using them again in a hurry.
Fast forward to today and I am having issues with it giving the outer half of the rears a really hard time and I have just got the shocks back from being tested on a shock dyno and surprise, surprise they are stuffed.
What ( of decent quality) is available these days for the sedan? It is lowered as much as I can get away with so I certainly don't need anything like the travel of the standard shock.
Cheers
Dave

So I went with Koni Classics on the coupe. I had to do a bunch of comparisons; I used Rockauto's website to double check the measurements. I ended up with shines for an Alfa Spider.

Thanks Tom, I am pondering over using MX5 Miata Bilstein B6's - they look like they may well fit but I need to do a bit more checking. Certainly very reasonably priced from Rock Auto.
My chassis guru was talking about Nitron but they are price prohibitive and to be honest I'm not convinced a lightweight little car like the 1200 needs them.
Re the Koni Classics- is your coupe turreted in the rear or are the shocks still in the factory position?
Cheers
Dave

for a lowered sedan, you can use a standard length shock, although it will only use part of the travel

KONI 80-1551 Alfa shocks can be made to fit the 1200 Coupe

Coupe shocks can be modded to fit the Sedan. The issue is the small Coupe bush hole, which can be drilled out to the 12 mm sedan size. Also transfer over the bump stops from the Sedan shock stem, as the Coupe shock doesn't have them

Hi DD, no the Spax's don't look the same and too be honest I wouldn't go back down that road again.
Thanks for the info on the Alfa Koni part numbers. Re the bottom eye I will be getting my engineer to transfer the spherical bearings over that we fitted to the Spax's so that shouldn't be a problem.
I think the biggest issue with the RS2000 shock is that it is simply too long for a lowered car and only using part of its range.
I would also like to limit the rear droop to around 50mm but just need to make sure that the shocks can handle that without 'topping out' and destroying themselves.
I am in communication with a English company called Protech Shocks that look promising so will be interesting to see where that leads.
Cheers
Dave

If you find them Dave, Tokico Prodra-G work really well. Non adjustable, however valved specifically for use in b110.

PRODRA・G・SG2203 R

Prodra-G's for reference.

Dave the shocks have the standard position at the top but the lower mount has been mover per the competition suspension manual. I'm using Koni part# 80-1551

Hi Tom,
Not having much luck with the English Company Protech so have been looking at other options.
Would you by any chance have the open and closed lengths of the Koni 801551? Also the shaft diameter and length?
Cheers
Dave

I think I've got the measurements written down somewhere. I'll try and dig them out and post them up.
