Spent the better part of yesterday at Eastern Creek Raceway viewing some good fields and some great racing. Was interesting to see a 310 with a very strong L20 finish 3rd over all in < 2 litre with a good showing from an SR20DE 1200 as well. An SR20DET Datsun 1600 won the > 2 litre against a big field of V8's, 6's, turbo rotaries and a well worked WRX (which blew up on the finish line). The 1600 was immaculate and this is it's first season racing so a win in this well sorted field was quite astounding. But the racer of the weekend was Dave in the ex-rally 1200 coupe that hasn't had a whole lot of money or engineering thrown at it - e.g. it's still at rally height. He had a ball in the last 1/3 of the field beating 2.0 litre Toyotas, Fiats and VTEC Hondas with an A15 block and an A12 head and standard gearbox. It had enough body roll to make you seasick but it just got in there and did the job.
