could anyone please tell me if a A12-GX ccamshaft has a different profile from a standard A12.

apparently yes, it tamer due to the emmisions crap i was told. ive also got a spare in the shed, just havent installed it on the stock head yet.

Yes, the A12GX camshaft is different, it was designed for bigger ports and higher RPM. See the FIA document in the Downloads section. Also see the Tech Section article Datsun A12GX Engine
