ok the other day I had to travel to a near by town, to pick up somethign for my boss, when I went there I decided to get a brake booster for my car, so I went to the wreckers nope they didn't have it went to another one and they were a really ruff looking place.
They had one and proceeded to get it off, they wouldn't let me go up and see or help i don't know why) i waited and waited 2hours past and it was closing time, tthey had 2 people to remove a single brake booster, anyway the guy comes to me and says they can't get it off till tomorrow and to come back tomorrow ,and I said bull**** I'm coming back tomorrow I am 1 hours drieve south from here and they go ok we'll freight it to ya which I thought was fair enuff.\
Sure enuff the next day a got it but with a $6.50 freight charge. THEY CHARGED ME FOR FREIGHT. That annoyed me so much. So many wreckers around let you help them and they give it to you cheeper or???
Cheers
Damo

I wish they'd put wrecking yards at 5 star luxury island resorts.. I'd prefer that. They could call it "Club-Datsun instead of Club Med.

Imagine spending 10 days and 8 nights dismantling nice dattos..it'd be great. I could wear a singlet and get a good tan..bloody perfect holiday...

Chris.

Funnyily enough I had my first trip to the wreckers today as a new datto owner and as I found out today there isnt to many 1200 sedans around anymore.
I had to drive about 1/2 hour out of town just to find a wrecker with a 1200, and he still didnt have all the parts I wanted.

PS, there was a guy with his 6 year old daughter living on a bus at the wreckers. What a way to grow up

I tend to avoid wrecking yards that don't let you go in and pull your own parts. To be honest, I usually don't know what I want when I go. I just peruse the yard looking at most anything.

more and more wreckers are not letting you walk around these days. With people sueing for falling over and stupid things like that as well as theft...
But I love walking around and checking things out. Spotting bits in good condition or interesting bits and things that the old owners have done to their cars that you mightn't have thought of.
I'm getting teary now....

Oh yeah and because most of them wont let walk around and get bits. This makes the bits more expensive cos they have to do more work...

you guys have it tuff in aus. allmost all the reckers here let you get your own parts. in fact theres a chain of them called 'pick-a-part' which cost two dollars to get in to and you can do what you want. sort of like a disney land for car freeks like us.

Most of the wrecking yards in Seattle let you go in the yard and remove your own, but some don't. Like Angelo, I avoid the latter. In any case, I always think "buyer beware" and figure my prices before hand. I won't buy anything if I don't like it or haven't inspected it personally.

There are also a few "u-pick-and-carry" places here and there (not too common, but some in the US), you know $75 for all you can carry etc.

My plug for the Wreckers is Pacific Highway Auto Dismantalers at Yatala South Brisbane, it clean , tidy , the staff are polite and helpful, parts are very resonably priced, all car types are together by make and they will show you the vehicle the parts came from if it is still there as everything is cross referenced, they have even gone out to get parts for me in the rain, and will fit the parts for a good price.Yes this place is almost perfect except they don't have any 1200's guess I don't get every thing my way, but I still shop there.
If you have later model vehicles this place is worth a look.
